Bamboo Hill, Kampung Air Batang, Pulau Tioman, 26800, Pahang, Malaysia

Relaxing in the peace of nature is at the heart of Bamboo Hill.

Covid-19 update

Tioman residents have received their second dose of Covid-19 vaccine and the island is open for anyone who has already completed two vaccination doses. We hope that anyone visiting Tioman will take a RTK test before leaving home to responsibly check that you are not travelling with Covid.  Click here for the ferry timetables for January for Bluewater ferries and end of January, February and March with Cataferry. We will be staying open during the rainy monsoon of November, December and January. What is Tioman like during the rainy monsoon? Find out here.

We are happy you found our website! Sorry we are not on any booking platforms but they do little to match your needs and expectations with suitable accommodation. We want our guests to feel Bamboo Hill is a dream come true, which is not the case for everyone. We have had guests who found us too quiet, too close to nature, not standard, too unique.

Are we the place you are looking for?

Rest in the tranquil energy of this beautiful hillside next to spacious sky, glistening sea, lapping waves (sometimes crashing), jungle green and tinkling river, an antidote to urban energies. Bamboo Hill gives you comfort and personal attention without the crowd. Our village, Air Batang, is truly vintage village – sleepy, no access to cars but with friendly restaurants and the occasional small shop. For those seeking a lively ambiance and night-life, Tioman might disappoint.

Nestled on a hill between tropical rainforest and reef paradise, our rustic, traditionally-designed cabins have panoramic sea views. Created by British-born Sue and Islander husband Zul (deceased), Bamboo Hill has been family-run since 1991 – a marriage of the spirit of Asia with the standards of Europe. Our rooms are well maintained and naturally ventilated by ceiling fans wafting the sea breeze through floor-to-ceiling, louvered windows (meshed against mosquitoes and bugs). None of the chalets have air-conditioning. Be with nature, not cut-off from it; you can even lie in bed and see the sea. Thoughtful details and personal attention make Bamboo Hill like a home from home.

We welcome anyone wishing to work remotely, using Bamboo Hill as an island office.

Aware of and responsible for the natural environment

To help reduce negative effects of human activities on the pristine environment of this gem of an island, we have gained Green Hotel status from Reef Check Malaysia and are part of a local initiative to avoid single use plastic. We don’t even put plastic bags in the bins, preferring to replace every day with a washed new bin. Each cabin has 4 refillable water bottles and free, purified spring water is available from the reception.
